You invite a participant to take part in an experiment about memory and influence. On your iPhone is a natural-looking note containing a numbered list of up to 1,000 genuine entries.

The participant thinks of any name or word and any number from 1 to 1,000. When they go to that position in the list, their freely chosen thought is already there.

Did they remember more than they realised—or were they influenced from the very beginning?

iNFLUENCED handles the work behind the scenes, placing the participant’s input at the chosen position and creating the finished note so you can concentrate on the presentation.

Built as a Native iPhone App

What began as an iOS Shortcut has been rebuilt as a dedicated iPhone app. The app brings routine setup, lists, note design, performance controls, integrations, tutorials and support together in one place.

Set up your presentation inside iNFLUENCED, tap Perform, and let the app guide the routine from secret input to finished result.

The revelation does not have to end when the participant finds their freely chosen thought at their freely chosen number. iNFLUENCED can also build a hidden acrostic into the surrounding list, creating a second impossible moment.

For example, imagine the participant chooses 384 and Derren Brown. When they scroll to their selection, this is part of the list they see:

Now look at the first letter of each name, beginning with Charlie Sheen and reading downwards. The letters spell:

CHOOSE THIS ONE

The final three names begin with V, creating three arrow shapes that point directly down towards Derren Brown.

The acrostic is fully customisable. iNFLUENCED checks the complete list for duplicates and, if there is not enough room above or below the chosen position, automatically repositions the acrostic so the kicker is always available.

This feature was a huge hit in the original Shortcut-only version of iNFLUENCED and it is now part of the dedicated app experience.
